1st example:
What I did in year 12
Last year, I created an opening sequence which didn't require much after effects, therefore there wasn't much incentive to include this, however we did make some in the form of an ident and creating our LOGO. We were taught to bare basics to start out adventure in the after effects world, however this wouldn't take grip until year 13, we were specifically taught how to create a logo, however I wanted to take it a step further by animated this and placing it at a higher quality.
What went wrong...
The pixelation quality of the actual ident was of a low resolution compared to our footage and 1080p quality which was universal across our product. This was the first time we used After effects, therefore we had limited knowledge on how to export the file, the aspect ratio was 4:3 instead of this universal 16:9.
What I did in year 13
After countless youtube tutorials and a platform to create a self sustained after effect product, I had consolidated the knowledge that I had established in year 12 and refined these skills, figuring out the direction I would take rather how would I do it. The quality of the finalised product was of a higher standard, using 4k to its fullest capability. Our ident and opening titles have more pronounced depth to them, using an extensive list of effects from animated words to a colour infused background. There are multiple layers which make the product more complex, containing geometric shapes and a retro TV overlay, this took on the old 60's vibes we were aiming for.
How this resulted in a stronger product.
With these refined skills I had created a product which was not only of a better standard, but it looked and felt professional, fitting into the category of our news site - video games. The ident and opening sequence made sense, sticking to our traditional retro purple colour scheme and using a smooth transition accompanied with suitable 60s music.
2nd Example:
What I did in year 12
In the third half of our production, where premier elements and editing came into play, there was a steep learning curve involved, containing a multitude of shortcuts and hot keys that I needed to memorise, this would include general cutting and editing of individual clips. Yet the more complex details were harnessed via youtube tutorials, consolidating my knowledge on aspects such as slow motion, time-lapses and colour correction.
What went wrong...
What I did in year 13
How this resulted in a stronger product.
